Art Groups

See below for a list of this year’s painting and drawing groups.  The afternoon groups are generally quieter than the morning groups. If you would like to join one of them, please pop along and speak to the group leader.  Alternatively, please email us to enquire.

Monday afternoon, watercolour painting with Caroline Warrington, 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm
A group where each member does their own thing, mainly watercolour and acrylic at the moment.  An established group that welcomes new members to share ideas and experience.
We meet during the autumn and spring terms, and additionally summer terms if members wish to continue in sufficient numbers.

Monday evening, life group with Chris Ward, 7.00 pm – 9.00 pm
An inexpensive and relaxed opportunity to explore this traditional art form. Those wishing to try life work for the first time are as welcome as those with more experience. No tuition is provided but beginners benefit from watching and talking to others in a friendly atmosphere. Term fee is around around £45 which includes the cost of the model.
Autumn session (starts early September) and Spring session (starts early January) of approximately 12 weeks each. We might run a few additional weeks in April/May.

Tuesday Morning paint group example

Tuesday morning general painting, any media, currently with Jill Hammond, 9.30 am – 12.00 noon
A thriving group of varying abilities using a variety of media. No tuition but the group members support each other in various ways, including informal and helpful criticism of each other’s work.
Autumn, Spring and Summer terms are of approximately 13 weeks each

Portrait

Wednesday morning portrait group with. Steve Johnson,  10.00 am to 12.30 pm
The portrait group draws and paints from a real live model who sits for us for up the three consecutive sessions.  All media , styles and abilities are welcome and much shared advice is available if so desired .
Regardless of your current area of artistic interest painting from life helps significantly in developing the “painters eye”. That is, the ability to paint what is actually there, as opposed to what one thinks is there. Hence the skills acquired are applicable in any artistic area and, what is more, it is great fun and the models don’t take offense!

Thursday morning, general painting with Reg Fahey, 9.30 am – 12.00 noon
The Thursday morning group is a friendly group. New members of all abilities are always welcome. It is a general painting group covering a variety of media. Some members paint from photographs, others copy paintings by the Old Masters.
Although there is no specific tuition provided, usually one of the more experienced members is able to offer advice, if requested, on artistic techniques and the purchase of art materials.
Autumn, Spring and Summer sessions.
